IS STUDY NECESSARY ?

All Trainees and Apprentices are expected to study, and are given advice on the choice of a suitable course. You will be allowed to attend classes at a Technical College on one day each week without loss of pay, any fees which you have to pay will be refunded in part, and there are prizes for passing examinations.

Certain outstanding Trainees and Apprentices have the chance of attending a ‘Sandwich Course’ at a Technical College. After passing out of the Training Scheme it is possible to win a scholarship at a university for further study.

ARE AGREEMENTS ISSUED ? All Craft Apprentices and Student Trainees receive Apprenticeship Agreements during their period of training, and these Agreements are made retrospective.

£££££ HOW MUCH IS THE PAY ? To tell you about all the different rates of pay in the industry would require a small book, for everyone is paid according to national scales which alter from time to time, and therefore none are printed in this leaflet. However, the scales for Trainees and Apprentices are enclosed, but they should be checked with your local Youth Employment Officer: he will have the latest rates of pay or will find out about them for you.

IS THERE A SPORTS CLUB ? Everyone is encouraged to take part in sports and social activities, and throughout the area of the Midlands Division there are very active sports clubs with facilities for football, cricket, tennis and other games. There are canteens at most power stations, with meals at reduced prices for young people.

WHAT ABOUT HOLIDAYS ? In addition to paid holidays, there are sick pay and pension schemes, and First Aid rooms are provided at all power stations.
