WHAT SORT OF JOBS ARE THERE ?

         You can train, dependent upon your educational standard, as:-

         an ENGINEERING CRAFT APPRENTICE to become, by the time you are twenty-one, a skilled craftsman in power station fitting and maintenance.
         an ENGINEERING STUDENT TRAINEE to become a qualified engineer on the technical staff of a power station, and being responsible for controlling electricity generation or planning and directing maintenance.
         a STUDENT TRAINEE CHEMIST undergoing training in the analysis of coal, ash, water and oil, and investigation into metal corrosion, to become a qualified chemist.
         a STUDENT TRAINEE DRAUGHTSMAN in either power station or transmission construction and design, to become a qualified electrical or mechanical engineer.


ALL STUDENT TRAINEES UNDERGO A FOUR
OR FIVE YEAR COURSE OF PRACTICAL
AND THEORETICAL TRAINING

         Also, there are opportunities to train in ADMINISTRATIVE or ACCOUNTANCY work at certain selected places, usually Divisional Headquarters or Wolverhampton Group office, to become a professional secretary or accountant.

WHAT EDUCATION STANDARD IS NEEDED? To join the Training Scheme as a CRAFT APPRENTICE, a good general education at a Secondary Modern school is the basic requirement. However, if good progress is made in practical and theoretical work, it is possible to be regraded to Student Trainee.
         To become a STUDENT TRAINEE you must have the General Certificate of Education in four subjects at Ordinary Level, or have passed the first year of the Ordinary National Certificate.
         ENGINEERING OR DRAUGHTSMAN TRAINEE--
                  GCE(O) in English, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry,
                  and one other subject.
         TRAINEE CHEMIST-- GCE(O) in English, Mathematics,
                  Physics and Chemistry.
